Delicate Ferocious Heart

I’ve spent a lifetime hating this

reflection of a ‘Me’

That never found her place within

A true eternity.

I caused her pain and sorrow

And her innocence I slayed.

And more than once I felt as though

With demons I had played.

She never knew what was to be

And never knew the tears

Would trace their way down blackened eyes,

And drown her youthful years.

And as the fear and sadness trapped her

In addiction’s claws

She snuffed her light out,

lived in darkness

nurtured all her flaws.

I see her now, the girl I lost

She smiles and holds my hand

Reminds me that the pain endured, I’ll one day understand.

He sees me though, oh yes he does.

And touches wounds so deep.

The used, abused and broken me

He cradles as I sleep.

This delicate ferocious heart

Now his to hold.

He tells me secrets

Turns my hate from lead into

pure gold.

These jagged edges of my broken self

Are sharp

And yet-

He quietly adores each piece…

A gift I can’t forget

I ask him if he loves me

And accept his tender kiss.

I turn the past to dust

because he loves me

just like this.

  1. My dear, how many times do I have to tell you to stop looking into cracked mirrors.
You will never see your true beauty doing that. Women are so hard on themselves.

I really like this poem, it resonates.
I am returning to bed. See if I can get past my insomnia.
I will be back to leave a more detailed comment.

But seriously, you are beautiful in so many ways. Happy he is showing you just that.

    1. I’m glad too! It happens to me a lot, and always with people whose writing I DON’T want to miss.
It’s cool. Nothing new here. All a load of poetry, lol.

I do feel the love flowing. Thank you for saying that.
      Hope you’re well πŸ˜‰

  2. If only I could give words to my thoughts and tell you how beautiful this is ……. I feel it’s fine to crack sometimes ..for it radiates our inner beauty……you are gorgeous inside out and it makes me so happy that he helps you see it ….πŸ€—β€οΈπŸ’•

    1. You did, lovely.
Felt your emotions and appreciation from waaay over here, so far away from you !

I think I wrote something in a poem once about cracks letting our inner beauty shine.
I’ve been through a lot. Mind boggling sometimes how I am still sane. But I know for a fact I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for all the, let’s call them challenges. And when someone sees you and accepts you as broken and damaged as you are, you feel like all that crap was leading to these small moments of love and beauty.
You’re so sweet to say such wonderful things to me.

A very fiery and long lasting cuddle for you

      1. And I feel your warmth …stay blessed and fiery …….I love the way you are ❀️😘……btw I resonate with all you’ve just said …….our situations and challenges may be different but they have chiseled us into this unapologetically unstoppable us πŸ€—

      2. That last line, you must take it and weave it into a poem. It’s beautiful.
Safe to say I think, we are on the same wavelength with many things! ❀️

  3. Your words flow so seamlessly, it’s beautiful. Though I hope you don’t be so hard on yourself. Reading your reply to ‘Stories In Between’ says that this isn’t just fiction so I’m worried for you. Please feel free to shoot me a message if you ever need a listening ear ❀❀

    1. You are incredibly sweet and caring, thank you.
Sometimes I draw from old pain, sometimes from new. I write whatever needs to be written.
      I am okay, don’t worry!
      it’s all just my poetry

    1. Poetry and poetic prose are all about interpretation, so thank you for your thoughts.
It can be about whatever comes to mind when you read it.
For me it was love of *my* ‘him’.
But that it provoked deep thoughts in you is wonderful.
      Thank you xx
